Raiders on the court, singers in the sanctuary, eighth graders in Washington

A school with four classrooms can still have a full life outside them. Here is what Reformation students do beyond the lesson, what's built into the school day, and what's optional.

Part of every student's week

  • Spanish, music, and physical education for kindergarten through 8th grade
  • Art instruction, and ukulele in grades 3 and 4

  • Weekly chapel with the whole school, and classroom singing in church services through the year
  • Field trips in every grade, from the pumpkin patch to museums and tide pools

Raiders athletics

Reformation competes as the Raiders in a local independent school league, with tournaments through the season. Teams are typically open to grades 5 through 8, and participation is optional with a small fee.

  • Girls volleyball
  • Boys basketball
  • Girls basketball
  • Track and field meet with affiliated schools. Every student in grades 1 through 8 learns track and field skills in PE, and the meet is where they put them to use.

This year's season includes a volleyball tournament in Wildomar in October, the Reformation Basketball Tournament at home in late January, the CalLu Classic in February, the track meet in Carlsbad in May, and a walk-a-thon in March.

Arts, competitions, and clubs

  • Fine Arts, Forensics, and Knowledge Bowl. Optional days of performance, speech, and academic competition with students from affiliated WELS schools across Southern California.
  • LEGO Robotics League for grades 5 through 8, when volunteer leadership is available.
  • After-school enrichment. Short programs through the year, such as a four-week Mad Science session, announced in the weekly newsletter.
  • Yearbook Club, one of the parent-led Volunteer Involvement Program groups.

Class trips for the upper grades

The upper grades take an optional multi-day trip that changes from year to year. Recent trips have included an educational program in San Francisco, Catalina Island with a focus on environmental science, and Washington, D.C. with a focus on U.S. history. This fall, grades 6 through 8 spend three days at the Catalina Island education program.
